Lip Hair Removal

Getting rid of upper lip hair is a problem mostly for women, since men who wish to remove hair from their lip are already familiar with facial hair removal techniques – indeed, most have dealt with the problem every day of their adult lives.

Unfortunate hairs and even a light moustache can occur on the upper lip of some women, however, and a method must be found to remove these unattractive additions to the female face which will leave neither stubble nor a five-o’clock shadow, which are nearly as objectionable to most women as the original lip hairs themselves.

Shaving is the most obvious solution, but it is also one of the poorest, since the hair may be visible inside the follicle if it is dark-colored, creating dots or even the five-o’clock shadow effect noted above.

Furthermore, the skin on the female upper lip area is usually thin and sensitive, and can be easily damaged by the abrasive effects of shaving – after all, facial abrasion is a fairly common complaint among male shavers also. It must also be done almost daily to prevent stubble.

Tweezing is a more constructive alternative, although it is best when there are only two or three hairs rather than a relatively thick ‘moustache,’ since the discomfort and effort of tweezing numerous hairs is prolonged in this latter case.

The use of tweezers does have the advantage that it completely removes the hair from the follicle, however, so there is no hair left to show beneath the skin. The follicles are also stretched by the process, so successive tweezings become easier and less painful over time.

Waxing is another good method for removing unwanted hair from the upper lip. The area is very small and usually quite flat, so two strips of wax are usually enough to remove the entire crop of lip hair – a process which literally takes a few seconds.

Most professional parlors will charge little more than $10 for this procedure, although local rates may be slightly higher, so professional aid is highly affordable in the case of lip hair. The upper lip will remain hairless for around three weeks.

Finally, the permanent methods of hair removal – lasers and electrolysis – may be applied in the cause of lip hair removal. These methods are somewhat more expensive, but as with waxing, the area involved is so small that the total number of sessions will be very low – possibly only one or two – and the cost will be far less than for a similar procedure on a larger body surface such as the legs, back, or genital area.

Upper lip hair removal is a relatively easy form of hair removal for women, given the small area and the low number of hairs involved, but it is often an urgent one, considering the aversion of most women to a hairy upper lip.

Fortunately, a wide range of up-to-date methods can be applied to solving the problem, from temporary but easily repeated solutions to permanent removal through lasers and electrolysis.
