Brazilian Hair Removal

The infamous procedure of Brazilian hair removal, or Brazilian waxing, is a very popular form of hair removal among many people despite (or perhaps partly because of) its controversial nature.

The exact definition of the “Brazilian” is somewhat vague, because some view it as meaning the partial removal of hair from the pubic region, leaving only a narrow fringe or two, while others define it as complete removal of all pubic hair, leaving completely hairless genitals.

Some view it as an unnatural and perverted attempt to imitate the pre-pubescent look of the genitals, while others think that it is highly erotic and fashionable, but whatever the specific view, there is no doubt of its growing popularity among both men and women, and that it requires a few special techniques of its own.

The genital region is so sensitive and easy to damage that most dermatologists recommend that Brazilian hair removal should be carried out by a trained professional waxer or laser operator. Simply ripping the hair out with wax at home is as likely to produce serious injury to the genitals as it is to provide the desired smooth look, and should be avoided by those who wish to undergo this procedure.

The two most extreme styles of Brazilian are the ‘landing strip,’ where a narrow band of hair is left alongside the genitals, and the ‘Sphynx,’ where all hair is removed from the groin as well as the cleft between the buttocks.

Brazilian waxes are the most common form of Brazilian hair removal, although this method is only temporary and the hair will grow back within several weeks. For a successful waxing, the hair must be a quarter-inch long if it is fine, and half an inch long if it is coarse.

If the hair is shorter than this, the esthetician will usually refuse to undertake the procedure until the hair has grown longer, since it is nearly impossible to use waxing with shorter hair. The client should also be prepared to expose the most intimate parts of their body to a stranger for a considerable period of time, making this a procedure not to be undertaken by the reticent.

The area is usually prepared with talcum powder, which will protect the skin somewhat from being seared by the hot wax. The wax is then applied, topped with a paper or cloth strip, and ripped off quickly, tearing away a strip of pubic hairs with it. The process is quite painful and the client should be prepared for this as well.

A typical full waxing will require half an hour to complete from start to finish.  The skin will be red, swollen, and painful for several hours afterwards, and should be kept clean; if the pain and redness persist, it may be sign of infection and should be inspected by a physician.

Laser hair removal can also be applied to the genital region to achieve a Brazilian effect, and in this case, the effects will likely be permanent. Two to three repetitions may be necessary before the pubic hair is finally vanquished, however, since the follicles activate in cycles, and from half to two thirds of them may be ‘missed’ during the initial treatment simply because they have no hair in them.

Whatever the method chosen, however, the seeker for a Brazilian hair removal will find many experts available for either procedure, ready to deliver the hairless private parts which are their goal.
